The Life of a Spokesmodel
A question I often get asked about is “How does a teenager become a spokesmodel at such a young age?” There is no simple answer, but I would mention that making connections is a good starting point! Throughout my experience as a spokesmodel, not only have I gained confidence in the way I present myself but also in how I showcase my work. For clarity, I was a Barbizon Spokesmodel from October 2017 – November 2019. Now, let’s discuss how I would start my day!
First, I would wake up and attend school. Since I was a minor, I would only work during after-school hours and on the weekends. Right after school, I would head straight to work. I would only work on Friday - Sunday, every week. Then, I would set up the kiosk and prepare the advertisements/services I’ll be promoting that day. Throughout the day, I would get signatures based on how many people were interested in the service I was advertising. The more signatures you received, the more calls you would receive as a spokesmodel. Since I worked at a mall, when I went on my break I would usually shop around (a little too much…) and eat in the food court. When my break was over, I would return to work and continue my day. There would be moments when I would get rude clients, but I would always tell myself to never take it personally. Tip: Remember that whenever you’re dealing with a rude customer/client, never take it personally and remain calm and positive!
An idea of what the mall looked like when I worked as a spokesmodel.
On Fridays, I would work from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm, and on the weekends, I would work from 12:00 pm - 9:00 pm. When I first started working, I had a hard time adjusting to the schedule, since I participated in after-school activities such as cheerleading. When I adjusted to the schedule, it became easy and fun to work at the mall. It felt as if I was living the average life of a teenager. If I could go back and relieve those moments of chaos, excitement, and nervousness I would! I think being able to be pushed out of your comfort zone is a good thing when pushed in healthy amounts.
