THE PROGRESS

PART 1: DEFINING THE THEME/ROLES

This project consisted of a team-based effort. I along with 4 group members were brainstorming events and I mentioned the Renaissance and royalty era. One thing led to another and the “For the Love of Life” forecast was born. When working with a group there was a lot of research that went along with predicting the potential colors and trends. I had the role of being the researcher and writer for this project. The theme was an abundance of creation. The celebration of individuality and creativity has sparked revolutionary ways of thinking and inspired many to contribute. Although the movements took place during tumultuous times, society sprung to reconnect with their imaginations and harness the power of individual expression. When considering the influencers of our project famous intellectuals and artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Galileo, and William Shakespeare came to mind. Explained as part of today’s zeitgeist, the theme - an abundance of creativity - is identified as a time of romanticizing life, which is inspired by younger generations refocusing on self-improvement. Likewise, today, after the pandemic, people have begun to realize the meaning of life. Two years of our lives have become a blur like they never happened. This has led to a point where the majority has started to try and find purpose in every action they take. The goal of this project overall is to cover how the human population today idealizes life every day, and this concept can bleed into the inspiration to develop an advanced society.

PART 2: CREATIVE DRIVE: COLORS & TEXTILES

When discussing the theme of an abundance of creation, there are many creative drivers that contribute such as eras, movements, music, films, podcasts, and social media. In particular, the Renaissance era can be described as an era of advancements in technology, knowledge, and art. This was a big influence as a historical aspect and a leading driver in the advancement of creation. Namely, the Romanticism movement played a big impact on how one could perceive life in a way that can be glamoured. The color palette became a visual expression of creativity within self-improvement when considering this project. During the Renaissance era “artists preferred distinct, bright colors like blue, red, and green. The main image on the color palette is The Roses of Heliogabalus (1888) by Lawrence Alma-Tadema. The surrounding paintings depict a woman holding a rose and an image of a teacup.  The remaining colors that are present throughout the color palette are brown, green, pink, blue, and neutrals (beige, tan, gray, and white). The neutrals presented in our color palette can be seen as a symbol of peace and calmness. Entirely, these colors represent an array of emotions and feelings within our theme that displays an abundance of creation. These colors often invoke personal growth and the influence of romanticizing one’s life.

The 6 textiles chosen for this forecast include, wool, silk tulle, linen, S Cafe ®, Econyl ®, and chiffon. During the Renaissance era much of the Florentine economy was based on the production of wool. Textiles at the time were based primarily on raw materials and wool was exploited as a resource.

PART 3: THE VISUALS & LOOKS

The visual components include images retrieved from Vogue, Essence, Cosmopolitan, VMFA, and real-time photographs. We wanted to showcase the glamourized and euphoric feeling of romanticizing your life. The first look presented throughout our forecast displays gracefulness and empowerment. This first look is titled “Ethereal Essence” and symbolizes the importance of self-improvement as white represents purity, newness, and simplicity. The gracefulness of the dresses expresses a sense of creativity within this look. The second look power titled “Strokes of Pastel” displays not only creativity but a sense of beauty and nature for this pastel-inspired look. “Strokes of Pastel” is a look that was inspired by the center of the artwork. Artists such as Leonardo da Vinci are noted as being one of the many artists to use pastels throughout the 16th century. The third look “Tulle Much Passion” was approached as a soft and feminine look through the delicate and transparent fabric. The light pinks, purples, and whites in the garments are like flowers with their light and soft colors. The layering and voluminous touch add shape and texture to the look.

Let’s take a look at the S/S 2024: For the Love of Life in its entirety.

THE OUTCOME

Throughout the project, I learned a lot about what teamwork means and how to overcome big obstacles. When working with a team it’s not about who completes a task and submits the report. Teamwork includes having conversations and being able to self-express yourself if you have any concerns or comments. I enjoyed not only researching for this project but also writing and creating different names for the colors and garments. Overall, this project allowed me to express my use of google slides, scaling, creativity, precision, organization skills, writing, researching, and persistence.
